By Patti Weaver (Stillwater, Okla.) — A Pawnee man accused of shooting a Stillwater woman in both legs has been ordered held in the Payne County Jail on $100,000 bail pending his arraignment this week on a felony charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
If convicted of shooting the woman who said she owed him money, Joseph Gerardo Vazquez, 34, could be imprisoned for 10 years and fined $10,000, court records show.
The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment, Stillwater Police Officer Greg Calloway wrote in an affidavit filed last week.
When the officer arrived at a trailer in the 2900 block of E. 6th Street in Stillwater about 10:15 p.m. last Thursday, the woman was screaming and crying on the ground, his affidavit said.
“There were several areas of her pants that were bloody,” the affidavit said.
“The woman claimed “she had been shot numerous times in both legs,” the affidavit alleged.
“There were several people around her trying to comfort her and ease her pain as other officers were arriving on scene,” the affidavit said.
She said “Joseph came to her trailer to collect some money that she owed him,” the affidavit alleged.
“There were a total of eight people in and around the trailer during the shooting,” the affidavit alleged.
Her boyfriend “explained that he was outside sitting in a chair when the suspect, Joseph Vasquez, and an unknown female associate drove up in a car,” the affidavit alleged.
He said after his girlfriend opened the door, a conversation got heated and an argument ensued, the affidavit alleged.
According to the victim’s boyfriend, “Joseph went back to the car on the passenger side and pulled out a gun and fired it straight up in the air one time,” the affidavit alleged.
The boyfriend said that the victim “walked across the front yard toward Joseph and yelled at him, something to the effect of ‘my kids are in the house!"” the affidavit alleged.
The boyfriend said immediately after she said that, “Joseph pointed the gun at her legs and pulled the trigger twice striking (her) in both legs,” the affidavit alleged.
He said “Joseph then got into the car and the female driver sped away southbound on Drury Street,” the affidavit alleged.
Vazquez was arrested that same night and jailed, court records show.
