(Cushing, Okla.)  Tuesday Morning, Cushing police received 11 reported auto burglaries. Most of the crimes were reported in the Southeast portion of the city. Electronics, clothing, and money were among items taken from cars.

Tuesday Afternoon, police received a solid crime tip one of the car burglary victims. An investigation sent police back into the area where most of the crimes were reported to have occurred, resulting in the arrest of a 16-year old Cushing resident on suspicion of second degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property by Cushing police Detective Adam Harp and Deputy Chief Tully Folden. The juvenile was taken to the police department, processed, and later transported to the Garfield County Juvenile Detention Center by Sgt. Charles Claxton.

As the investigation continued, police were able to connect three other Cushing residents to Tuesday’s car burglaries. Two of them were juveniles and one was an adult. All three were interviewed at the police department and released. Police intend to present a criminal case on these three in connection with the car burglaries to the Payne County D.A.

“First, I want to thank the victim who connected with us, sharing a critical piece of information, which allowed us to further our investigation, and make the connections” said Chief Terry Brannon. “Second, I am really proud of the excellent police work done in this investigation by Detective Adam Harp, Deputy Chief Folden, and Officer Carson Watts,” he said. “They started out with not much to work with, and by the time these officers were finished late Tuesday evening, a large amount of the property taken was recovered from three different locations in the city, and those suspected of committing these crimes had been identified” said Brannon.

Police have yet to connect some of the recovered property to victims.

“I want to remind citizens of the importance of calling the police department when you have been a crime victim, no matter how small you think the loss might be,” said Detective Adam Harp. “We have property that we are not able to link to a victim, and it is important to us that we are able to return stolen property to the rightful owner,” he said.
