MORE INFORMATION

ABOUT THE BRICK BY BRICK CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

On Friday, May 2nd, The Oklahoma Opry (Opry Heritage Foundation of Oklahoma) completed the purchase of the building at 19 E. California Ave.; a four story building that will house all of the Opry’s 501(c)3 non-profit programming, including: The Oklahoma Opry, Granville Community Music School, and Veteran’s program – Strings of Valor. The Oklahoma Opry launched the Brick by Brick capital campaign in October 2023. The goal of Phase 1 was to raise the funds to purchase the building and assume ownership – a historic first in the near 50 year history of the Oklahoma Opry. With Phase 1 completed, the next phase will raise funds for the renovations and completion of the Opry’s forever home on the Bricktown canal.

For the first time in its history, all of the Opry’s programs will be under one roof: its iconic Saturday evening shows, Guitars for Vets and Granville Community Music School. Vacant since the 1980s, the Opry’s new headquarters at 19 E. California will soon house a theater, classrooms, piano labs, a parent resource center, gift shop, concessions, green rooms, dressing rooms and more – and there are still naming rights available.

OPRY HERITAGE FOUNDATION OF OKLAHOMA

The Opry is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to provide quality music education and artist development while expanding the music industry and tourism in Oklahoma. The Opry works towards that mission through the following three programs:

1) The Granville Community Music School provides quality music lessons to children from low income families for 50 cents per lesson. Granville is open to children ages 9 – 18 and offers lessons on all instruments as well as vocal lessons. In addition to private music lessons, Granville has also provided group music classes for Positive Tomorrows, an OKC school for homeless children, Mission Academy High School for students recovering from substance addiction or abuse and other underserved OKC public schools.

2) Strings of Valor provides 10 free guitar lessons to veterans who upon completion receive a new guitar and all necessary accessories to continue playing. After starting a pilot program in 2017 and later operating Oklahoma’s first chapter of the national Guitars for Vets program from 2018-2025, the Oklahoma Opry is continuing its longstanding partnership with the OKCVA Recreational Therapy Department to transform lives through music.

3) Oklahoma Opry, Oklahoma’s Official Country Music Show, has brought family friendly, live music entertainment to Oklahoma City on Saturday nights for over 46 years! The Opry provides free artist development and songwriting workshops to local performers along with multiple concerts per year for students across the state, integrating live music with Oklahoma history.

ADDITIONAL HISTORY

Founder, Grant Leftwich, started the Oklahoma Opry and held shows in Capitol Hill from 1977-2004. The show moved to the Rodeo Theater in Stockyards from 2004-2020 as the Rodeo Opry. After leaving the Rodeo theater in 2020, the Opry secured their original name back and continued as the Oklahoma Opry in their temporary location at ACM@UCO. Scott Booker and The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) are graciously allowing the Opry to hold shows and Granville lessons at ACM until the Opry’s forever home is completed – right next door at 19 E. California.
