The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has completed it’s nine month investigation into the September 2014 Murray County collision that resulted in the deaths of four North Central Texas College softball players. Based on the investigation, the District Attorney in Murray County has charged Russell Wayne Staley with four counts of Manslaughter in the 1st degree. Staley made an appearance before the Murray County Judge Thursday June 25. After appearing with counsel Staley was processed into the Murray County jail on four counts of Manslaughter in the First Degree and released on an own recognizance bond. Each charge carries a penalty of not less than four years and no more than life.

The OHP expended a tremendous amount of resources investigating the human, vehicle and scene factors while researching work and medical histories. During the investigation search warrants and grand jury subpoenas were utilized to collect evidence in both Oklahoma and Texas.

A summary of the investigation was placed into a Probable Cause Affidavit for an Arrest Warrant which is filed in Murray County District Court.
