October 4th – 10th was proclaimed “Arts Appreciation Week” at the Monday night Board of Commissioners meeting held at City Hall.

The proclamation read: “Whereas, the City of Cushing is proud to have been a part of the Festival in the Park for the past 20 years, and

Whereas, the Lachenmeyer Art Center, with the generous financial support of the Nelle & Milt Thompson Foundation, the Carson Foundation, McDonald’s and GRDA in cooperation with the Cushing Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Downtown Cushing Revitalization Association, the Geographic Club, the Oklahoma Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, the Cushing Arts and Humanities Council, the Cushing Lions Club, numerous other sponsors, local organizations and hundreds of civic minded community volunteers have come together to present the Festival in the Park for its 21st season; and

Whereas, the impact of this long standing celebration of the creative arts by paricipants recognized as outstanding in their fields will be a positive reflection on the City of Cushing and will continue to have a positive effect on tourism, public relations and civic pride and awareness for the City of Cushing;

Now, therefore, I, John R. Henckel, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Cushing, do hereby proclaim October 4 – 10, 2009 as:

“Arts Appreciation Week”

in the City of Cushing and do hereby call upon the citizens of Cushing and the Cimarron Valley area to join with us in celebrating this week, and show our appreciation for the arts by attending the 21st Annual Festival in the Park on OCt. 10, 2009

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the great seal of the City of Cushing to be affixed this 21st day of September, 2009.”

According to Rob Smith, Lachenmeyer Arts director, approximately 17 artists have signed up to participate in the event.  Smith is the featured featured artist this year – and it’s definitely a scream!!
