There was a passing of the gavel at Thursday’s Rotary Club meeting as Mandy Floyd was sworn in as the new Cushing Rotary Club president.  Outgoing president Rick Ahrberg congratulated Floyd and wished her well as the 2010 – 2011 president.  He also thanked his fellow members for their patience with his schedule.

“I appreciate everyone for understanding that I have five children and they’re all involved in something,” Ahrberg said.

In her acceptance speech, Floyd thanked Ahrberg for being gone sometimes.  “Thanks Rick!  I was kinda glad you were gone so much – it gave me some experience before taking over.”

Ahrberg presented special awards prior to passing off the gavel.  Those awards were:

Rotarian of the Year:  Dr. Robert Mullins

Program of the Year: Bill Ahrberg for guest speaker Mike Turpin

New Rotarian of the Year: Holly Tichenor

Perfect Attendance:  Tanya Rhoten, Mark Lauderdale (for a whopping 26 years!) and Dr. Tami Babb.

The club also said goodbye to Sebastian, the foreign exchange student.  “A big huge THANK YOU,” Sebastian said with emotion.  “You all have changed my life.”  Sebastian will return home to Belgium after spending a couple of weeks on the East Coast.

Cushing Rotary Club meets each Thursday at noon at the Steer Inn in Cushing.
