(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Mulhall man who admitted robbing a Stillwater restaurant with an imitation firearm and twice burglarizing a Stillwater apartment complex was sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison by Payne County District Judge Phillip Corley on Monday.

Craig Terrel Canser, 51, who has been in the Payne County Jail on $155,000 total bail for the past eight months, was given credit for that time he has already served, as part of a plea bargain approved in court Monday.

Canser was arrested on Oct. 8, 2014, as a suspect in the 5 p.m. Oct. 3, 2014, armed robbery of the Taco Mayo at 116 E. McElroy in Stillwater, in which an assault rifle was reported as having been used, a police news release said.

Stillwater Police Detective Cody Manuel had developed a lead regarding the suspect’s identity, a news release said.

Detectives Manuel and Kyle Bruce located Canser as he was leaving a business in the area of Redbud and Perkins Road, the news release said.

For committing robbery with an imitation firearm, to which Canser pleaded guilty Monday, he was given a five-year prison term, in the plea bargain.

After Canser finishes that sentence, he must serve a seven-year prison term for breaking into the Prime Place Apartments in Stillwater on Sept. 12, 2014, to which he pleaded guilty Monday.

When Canser discharges that sentence, he must then serve a three-year prison term for breaking into the Prime Place Apartments in Stillwater on Sept. 29, 2014, to which he pleaded guilty Monday.

If Canser had not accepted a plea bargain, he could have been given as much as a life prison term for the robbery plus 14 years for the burglaries, court records show.
