(Cushing) – The Payne County Sheriff’s Department and Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics And Dangerous Drugs is investigating what is believed to be thge remnants of a methamphetamine lab.   The disocivery was reported to the Sheriff’s Department about 10:30 AM Wednesday.  Payne County Sheriff R.B. Hauf tells KUSH the call initially went to Cushing Police,  who believed the investigation was outside their jurisdiction, and that why the Sheriff’s deparment was contacted.

Hauf says that because his officers are not certified to handle the chemicals involved in a meth lab,  he contacted the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous drugs for assistance and disposal of the items involved.   Hauf says because his department did not take the inventory of the items,  he cannot give an exact list of the items found,  but said the items were things like coffee filters, syringes and assorted boxes believed to have been used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Hauf said the location of the items led him to believe the items had been dumped recently,  and that the investigation remains open.  He also said the location of the items did not pose a threat to the operations of the water plant.
