STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education recently awarded 10 students from Meridian Technology Center the Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship.
Adult students receiving this honor are Carmen Davis, Perkins; Alexis Carrier-Clark, Guthrie; Holly Boyer, Blackwell; Domanique Banks, Morrison; Kelsey Williams, Edmond; and Stillwater students Tessa Robnett, Verla Holguin, Carli Ferguson, Kaylee Jackson and Justin Boyd.
The scholarship’s namesake, Otha Grimes, was actively involved in agriculture, oil and gas production, and civic programs throughout the state. Grimes served as a member of the board of directors for the CareerTech Foundation.
The Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship is reserved for adult students who may not qualify for other scholarship opportunities or student assistance programs. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of commitment exhibited by the recipient. Awards range from $300 to $600 and are unrestricted with respect to the occupational area. Funds can be used to assist winners with tuition, books and other direct expenses incurred for training.
Meridian Technology Center is a career and technology training center located in Stillwater, Okla. The center has more than 70 career majors and offers a wide variety of evening short-term courses and certifications for many diverse career fields. Meridian also offers services to businesses in need of training and development. Each year approximately 11,000 students come to Meridian from all areas of business and industry.
