Martha Janet (Hunter) Jones, of Yale, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Drumright Nursing Home, Drumright, OK, at the age of 78. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Yale. Interment will follow at Lawson Cemetery, Yale, Oklahoma.
Martha was born on April 7, 1935 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to the late H.A. and Naydeen (Clevenger) Hunter. She grew up in Nowata Oklahoma, graduating from Nowata High School in 1953. Martha married the love of her life Hugh Jones on August 25, 1956 in Nowata, Oklahoma, to this union Mark, Phillip, and Rachel were born. They made their home in Yale for many years.
Martha received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma A&M University in 1956, and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was the Oklahoma A&M yearbook Queen. After graduation she married Hugh and began raising her family, in 1988 she began teaching Elementary Education at the Oilton Public Schools retiring after several years. After retirement, Martha and Hugh began to travel very extensively. Martha spent a lot of her time helping and volunteering in her community and Church. She enjoyed music and working in her flowerbeds, but most of all she love giving back to those in need, if one could describe her in one word it would be SELFLESS.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh Jones of the home, two sons Mark Jones and wife Rebecca of Pryor Oklahoma, Phillip Jones of Yale, one daughter, Rachel Jones and husband Kirt of Chicago, three sisters Beth Barrett and husband Bill of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Deena Chamberlin and husband Herb of Oceanside, California, Lynn Beidl of Tennessee, six grandchildren Andrew, Jordan, Cooper, Morgan, Parker, and Kyleigh Jones, and many other relatives and friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents.
