(Cushing, Okla.)  Cushing Chamber of Commerce held a reception recently to honor Business After School recipients for March.

Those selected were Cushing High School seniors Dillon Wasson and Gabrielle (Gabby) Swain; teacher, Julie Puls; and support person, Carlton Lowell Hall.

Each of the recipients are asked to answer a brief questionaire about themselves.  Here are some things they each had to say.

Dillon Wasson enjoys golfing and “hanging out” with his friends in his spare time and says he is “a very dedicated person” when it comes to doing certain tasks.  His favorite food list includes “any food you can think of.”

When asked who he would spend the day with if he could choose anyone, Dillon said it would be Morgan Freeman, adding, “It would be amazing to have him narrate a day of my life.”

Dillon’s future goals include graduating college with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Gabby Swain enjoys reading, scrapbooking and spending time with her family.  A book she read recently for English class was “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley.  “I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would,” she said.  “It was a good mystery.”

Gabby said if she could, she would spend the day with Jackie (Kennedy) Onassis because she has “always been an inspiration.”

When asked to brag on herself, Gabby said, “I’m intelligent, and I try to excel academically.”  She said she has also been nominated for Academic All-State in cheerleading and scored a 29 on her ACT.

Gabby’s future plans include obtaining a degree from Oklahoma State University with a “lively career” in a small town.

Julie Puls is a Cushing High School graduate and is married to Steve Puls.  The couple has an 11-year-old son Hunter who attends Harmony.  In her spare time she enjoys reading and following her son’s sports activities.  She is also very involved with many activities at Cushing High School including, prom, gifted and talented and cheer.

Julie said if she could travel anywhere, she would go to Greece to see all of the great architecture.

She said her greatest joy in teaching is “seeing former students as adults.  It’s great to see what students become.”

Support person Carlton Hall is married and the couple has raised one daughter and four boys.  They have 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In his spare time, Carlton enjoys gardening, visiting families in the area and teaching an adult class at church.

He has also pastored Faith Baptist Church for 19 years.

Carlton said the greatest joy in his job is “working with others at the school” and the bond he has developed with them.

Business After School is held the last Monday of each month during the school year at the Cushing Chamber of Commerce.
