Lura Charlyn Davis Floyd, passed away on Saturday morning, March 7, 2009 in the Linwood Village Nursing Home at the age of 87 years.

The daughter of the late Charlie Smyth Davis and Lura Gatsey Reynolds Davis, Charlyn was born on March 28, 1921 in Memphis, Texas where she graduated from Lakeview High School. After graduation, she accepted employment with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita as a riveter, supporting herself through cosmetology school. Once she received her cosmetology license, she moved to Argonia and was employed as a cosmetologist.

Charlyn was united in marriage to Elijah Wayman Floyd, Jr. on August 31, 1947 on a baseball field at the conclusion of the first Jubilee Celebration in Argonia, Kansas and the couple moved to Moline in 1949. To this union seven children, Gary, Larry, Bob, Rodger, Rita, Janice and Harold, were born.

Charlyn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Moline and Cushing, serving in numerous aspects of the church. While living in Moline, Charlyn was a member of the ABW where she had held various offices, including President, also serving as a Den Mother for many years.

In February 1996, following the death of her husband, Charlyn moved to Cushing. Upon moving to Cushing, she enjoyed spending time at the Senior Citizen Center and was a member of the Piecemakers Quilting Guild, serving as the Benevolence officer. She loved to serve on the prayer chain for the church and was one of the ladies who started the widows group within the church, providing a gathering for the widowed women who met monthly for lunch and would play cards and dominoes. Most recently she enjoyed serving on the resident council at the nursing home.

Charlyn will always be remembered for her love and devotion for the Lord. She enjoyed reading the word of God with the expectation that she could always learn something new. She loved sewing, quilting, ceramics, canning and cooking. The grandkid’s especially remember her rabbit shaped pancakes with red hots.

Her devotion was also to her family, whether as mother, grandma or great-grandma. She loved her family to be together at family reunions, holidays or anytime in general. She loved to watch sports, whether it was her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids or a game on television.
