Cushing police have arrested a local resident for burglary at the Pizza Hut overnight.

This morning, Cushing police investigated an early morning burglary at the Pizza Hut, 1108 E. Main Street. Cushing police officer MPO Adam Harp discovered the burglary just after 4:30 a.m. while on patrol. In addition to the business being burglarized, significant damage was also done inside of the business and property taken. Some of the property taken was recovered by MPO Bill McCarty this morning.

Cushing resident Samantha Touchstone, WF, 20 yoa, (photo at right) was arrested at her residence in the 1000 blk E. Greenlee Street, in connection with the burglary. Touchstone was taken into custody by Cushing police Officers Carson Watts and MPO Bill McCarty. MPO Harp interviewed Touchstone at the jail and she was cooperative.

In addition to being arrested for Burglary, Touchstone was also charged with two counts of Child Neglect. Police believe that Touchstone left her two and three year old children at home alone while she walked to a convenience store in the 600 blk E. Main Street, to make a telephone call to someone that was being held in the Cushing jail on an unrelated case. The Oklahoma Department of Human Services was called and responded to Touchstone’s residence. The children were released to relatives by D.H.S.

Chief Terry Brannon said, “I want to commend MPO Harp for the investigative police work done in this case. MPO Harp noticed some small clues, which prompted him to check the Pizza Hut, later discovering it burglarized. In addition to MPO Harp, I also want to commend the teamwork shown this morning, which included MPO McCarty and Officer Watts. The efforts of all the officers involved in this case continue to reflect our efforts to keep Cushing a safe, livable city.”

Although an arrest has been made, others may have possibly been involved. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around the Pizza Hut last night is encouraged to call the police department at (918) 225-1212.
