(Cushing, Okla.) At a recent meeting of American Legion Post 108, two of its members were presented with Quilts of Valor for their service. The mission of Quilts of Valor is to cover all combat service members and veterans “touched by war” with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.
Post Commander Jim Hunter was presented a beautiful red, white and blue quilt, “stitched with love, prayers and healing thoughts,” by Cindy Cranford. Hunter was not only presented the quilt for his service in the Korean War as a Marine, but for his 60 years of service to the American Legion.
He thanked them saying, “I’m very grateful for this. It’s beautiful.”
Hunter was also presented a commemorative sword for his service to Post 108.
The second quilt presentation came as quite a surprise to its recipient Post 108 member, and newly elected Oklahoma American Legion State Commander, Bobby Bryant.
Unbeknownst to him, Bryant’s wife Linda, who had arranged for the presentation for Hunter, had also arranged for her husband to received a quilt.
“This wasn’t part of the deal,” Bryant said as he made his way to the front to accept the quilt.
Katherine Caffey, Oklahoma State & Request Coordinator for Quilts of Valor, presented Bryant with his quilt, which had been selected by his wife.
“I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Bryant said. “Thank you.”
