(Cushing, Okla.) Russ Thurman, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:18 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by request for prayers and the prayer with Terry Brannon.
Guests from the Perkins, Oklahoma Lions Club were then introduced (Lion Lee and Lion Harland Wells).
Followed by guest and speaker Joshalyn Ocker and her daughter Sarah, both with The Right Path Riding Academy, Therapeutic Equine-Assisted Programs, on Old Shamrock Highway, Drumright, Oklahoma.
Ocker spoke about some of the different riding programs they have including: the therapeutic riding program, which is for children ages 3 to 18; the Trail Blazers youth enhancement project, a project which works with middle school students who have been identified by their school as at-risk for dropping out; the Horse Tales literacy project, a project benefiting 1st grade students from Title I schools; and Hooves on the Ground, a veterans program which serves honorably discharged, disabled veterans.
The Right Path Riding Academy will be having an Open House from 11 (am) until 3 (pm), Saturday, November 14th (2015) for the Hooves on the Ground Veterans Program. The program will feature a poker run and a car show.
The Right Path Riding Academy is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Gifts and grants from interested organizations and individuals fund their operation. If you would like more information about The Right Path Riding Academy go to [email protected] .
Tom Cummings reminded everyone that the Lions will be doing sight testing at 9:00 (am)on September 10th (2015) at Small Miracles (Cushing, Oklahoma).
Final items of interest that were brought to the clubs attention included; rescheduling the 4 person scramble (golf tournament), the Cowboy Cadillac ticket sales (now underway) and the front awning on the building (needing replacement).
Today’s winner of the 50/50 drawing was Lion Buck Blake.
