(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Cushing Chapter of Lions Club International, called his meeting to order today at 12:13 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snider. This was followed by prayer requests and a prayer led by Lion Russ Thurman.
Lions Club then introduced guests: Brent Thompson the Executive Director of The Cushing Chamber of Commerce, Administrative Assistant Stacy Caulfield, special guests and restaurant entrepreneurs D. Shaw and Capp Crowder from the new Capp’s BBQ that is coming to Cushing, and finally, Donna Judd with Red Dirt Media.
Agenda items included a thank you letter from the Lions Club for Dr. Gary Detrich from the Oklahoma Lions Club Humanitarian of the Year Award and the reading of the Club minutes by Kateri Holbert. The minutes were approved as read by a vote of the membership. Tail Twister Kevin Clouse announced $6.50 collected during today’s meeting.
Lion of the Day Lou Griffin introduced Barrett Shupe, head coach of the Cushing Tiger football team and his staff of coaches: Ty Bullock, Mike Carmin, Rusty Morgan, Dusty Hancock and J Moore. Shupe reported they are looking forward to the upcoming season. He commented that this year’s team is a “young one” since several key players graduated in the spring. Cushing Tigers will take on the Bristow Purple Pirates for the season opener Sept. 5th at O’Dell Field on the CHS campus.
A special thanks went to Capp Crowder for speaking about his new restaurant Capp’s BBQ that is expected to open sometime in September.
The meeting adjourned around 12:58 (p.m.).
