(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:20 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion and Rev. Kathleen Leithner. This was followed by prayer requests for local families along with prayer by Russ Thurman.
Lions Club then introduced guest Brenda Magdeburg, Vice President of the Bank of Cushing.
President Pickard talked to the club about the upcoming Festival in the Park and the positions needing filled as well as the list of participants to date for the Chili Cook-Off. He then touched briefly on the topic the fruit sales that take place every fall.
Lion Teresa Gwinup is holding a raffle with proceeds going to Relay for Life, tickets for the raffle are being sold six tickets for five dollars or just one dollar per each individual ticket. The lucky winner will receive a Bucket full of goodies.
Lion of the day Lou Griffin introduced today’s speaker, US Senator Frank Lucas. Lucas spoke on several different topics including committees he has set on: House Agriculture Committee, Dodd Frank/ Committee on Financial Services and Science /Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Senator Lucas said that he was the proudest of the ten state pilot projects for recipients to work for their stamps. The pilot project is to reduce dependency and increase work requirements and work efforts under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Tail Twister Kevin Clouse announced today’s winner of the 50/50 drawing, Vice President of the Bank of Cushing, Brenda Magdeburg. Brenda was the lucky winner of $11 in which she donated back to the club. Kevin then notified members that $2.75 had been raised by the Tail Twister during today’s club meeting.
The meeting adjourned around 01:08 (p.m.).
Cushing Lions Club meets each Tuesday at noon in the Lion’s Den in downtown Cushing.
