(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:18 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snider. This was followed by prayer requests for some families in Cushing. Russ Thurman led the prayer.
Lions Club then introduced guests: Bob Gilkerson, Donna Judd with Red Dirt Media and Joyce Abrams with KUSH Radio Station.
Lions Club members were ask if they would like to participate in a 50/50 raffle. The raffle would have 50% going to a member “and” the other 50% to an organization of choice. The raffle idea is to be re-visited at a later board meeting.
Lion of the Day Lou Griffin introduced today’s speaker: Jim Wasson and wife (Linda Wasson). Jim is with Route 66 Community Partners – a group that is exploring Oklahoma’s Rural Heartland and helping to empower their rural regional partners. There are 25 communities in the Route 66 Community Partners group.
Route 66 Community Partners are holding their 2nd annual Poker Run on Saturday , September 6 (2014). Registration starts at 9:00 (am) at KUSH Radio, 3818 East Main Street (Cushing). All vehicles must be out of the parking lot by 11:00 (am) and back in by 3:00 (pm) to the finishing place in Perkins at Territorial Plaza. The run is a total of 89 miles. All cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome.
