Lillian Hulda Meyer, lifelong Avery resident, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014, in Cushing at the Linwood Village Nursing Home, at the age of 88 years.
The daughter of the late Herman C. Wolff and Vera Emma Reuter Wolff, Lillian was born on December 17, 1925, in Avery.
She was united in marriage to George J. Meyer on November 22, 1945, in Avery. To this union four children, Gilbert, Georgena, Janice, and Joyce, were born. George preceded her in death on June 23, 1998.
Lillian was a lifelong active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she and George were raised, baptized, confirmed and married. She taught Sunday School, Bible School and was part of the Dorcas Society. She sang in the church choir and often for funerals.
Lillian had worked for Happy Valley school and Stroud Public Schools for over 20 years. She was an avid sports fan, she loved watching all the local sports teams. She enjoyed numerous activities, including quilting, canning, gardening, cake decorating, baking and sewing clothes for her children when they were young. Lillian loved life; she dedicated her life to caring for others, whether it was at home for her family, serving her church and community or in her last years, serving those who lived at the nursing home with her. If someone had a need, she would be the first to step up and offer to help.
Survivors include three daughters, Georgena Boyle and her husband, Gary, of Stroud, Janice Doerge of Oklahoma City and Joyce Dove and her husband, Larry, of Seminole; daughter-in-law, Maxine Meyer of Cushing; five grandchildren, David Meyer and his wife, Kathy, Billy Hickman and his wife, Stephanie, Evan Doerge and his wife, Kendra, Jennifer Dye and her husband, Brian, and Kim Sykora and her husband, Jeremy; ten great-grandchildren, Maranda Meyer, Katy Meyer, Grant Dye, Emma Dye, Grace Sykora, Ellison Sykora, Mason Doerge, Garrison Cox, Allyse Hickman and Rhyden Hickman; sister-in-law, Georgia Wolff; special friend and roommate for 5 years, Edith Prough and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian was preceded in death by one son, Gilbert Meyer and three brothers, Wilbert Wolff, Milton Wolff and Marvin Wolff and his wife Lawanda.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Cheryll Armstrong-Kaukis officiating.
Burial will follow in the church yard cemetery.
Serving as Casketbearers will be David Meyer, Brian Dye, Jeremy Sykora, Billy Hickman, Evan Doerge and Carson Wolff.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
