Lester Franklin Burgess, retired self employed dry wall contractor, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in the Stillwater Medical Center at the age of 91.

    The son of the late William C. Burgess and Ora Doak Burgess, Lester was born on February 14, 1921 in Tahlequah, OK and was raised and educated in Clarksville, Arkansas.

    He was united in marriage to Goldie Hamilton on March 29, 1941 and was married for over 66 years prior to her death on November 10, 2007.

    Lester was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II; he enjoyed wood working; oil painting; working in the yard and spending time with his family and friends.

    He is survived by his daughter Joan Holderread and her husband Glenn of Cushing; three grandchildren, Sara Wright and her husband Brett, Ann Yankunas and her husband Dan and Cindy Sturm and her husband Mike; 6 great-grandchildren:  Koln Wright, Austin Yankunas, Abbi Wright, Jacob Sturm, Katie Sturm and Luke Sturm; five sisters, Sybil, Yvonne, Dean, Melissa and Ann; one brother Jack; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

    Graveside services will be Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

    Memorial donations may be sent to Love, Inc. of Cushing for local firemen.
