(Mannford, Okla.) – At the 25th Annual Lake Keystone Classic Basketball Tournament in Mannford you might have thought on paper the top ten match up between the 8th ranked Cushing Lady Tigers and the 6th ranked Daniel-Webster Lady Warriors would be a close game. A game where you would use just the edge of your seat, but pay for the whole thing, as the cliché might say. Well on this night you would be wrong.
And on this night, Che’Ron Lewis had a tough night scoring, Taylor Jones put the Tigers on her shoulders and carried them to victory. Jones went 8 for 10 from the free throw line and added 6 more points from the paint finishing with a total of 15 points on the night. Cushing got scoring help from Mattea Jackson who was perfect from the line and added a three pointer, Mariah Burris added 3 more points and Shaunda Hagler put in 6 more. The Lady Tigers had a commanding lead at the half 24-11 over the Lady Warriors.
In the second half, Che’Ron Lewis broke her scoreless streak finishing the game with a season low 6 points. Cushings defense was outstanding, swarming to the loose ball all night long. Jones ended the game with 3 blocks and the Lady Tigers forced the 6th ranked Lady Warriors to turn the ball over and make mistakes more in this game than any other this season. Coming into the game Daniel- Webster defeated two 6A schools including one of them being 5th ranked Booker T. Washington. Cushing upsets the Daniel-Webster Lady Warriors 43-16.
The Lady Tigers play in the Lake Keystone Classic Championship game against Piedmont in Mannford on Saturday at 7pm.
