March is Youth Arts Month. Cushing Public Schools and the Lachenmeyer Arts Center are combining efforts to celebrate and recognize our youth during Youth Arts Month. Currently on exhibit at the Lachenmeyer Arts Center is the 20th Annual Youth Arts Show. The show will be on display March 2 – 13, 2009.
The Youth Arts Show consists of artwork from Cushing High School students studying under M.J. Henderson-Smith, Cushing Middle School students studying with Betty Bowen and Harmony Elementary students from Debbie Cochran’s Third Grade class. The show also includes students taking art classes at the Lachenmeyer Arts Center with director Rob Smith.
The Thompson Foundation is sponsoring several People’s Choice Award. The winner from the Cushing High School category will receive a gift certificate of $50 to Hobby Lobby. Winners from the Cushing Middle School category and the elementary school category will each receive a gift certificate for $25 to Hobby Lobby. Any one visiting the Youth Arts Show can vote for their favorite work of art.
The Lachenmeyer Arts Center is located in the Cushing Youth & Community Center at 700 S. Little Ave. Gallery hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday & Friday and 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday & Thursday. For more information call Rob Smith at 225-7525.
