Karen “Kandi” Denise (Hunter) Gibson, a longtime Perkins resident, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the age of 56. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Saturday at Palmer Marler Funeral Home, a Wake Service will be held on Sunday at Sac and Fox Community Building in Stroud. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at the Hunter Cemetery in Cushing.

Karen was born on May 13, 1958 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Doris (White) Hunter and the late Harrison Hunter Jr. She grew up in McLoud, graduating from McLoud High School in 1976. She worked in house keeping at various hotels in Stillwater. Karen married Jimmy Gibson on January 7, 1984 in Perkins, Oklahoma. She enjoyed singing, and participating in Pow-wow’s. Karen was a Baptist by Faith. She enjoyed Prayer meeting and all of the traditional activities. She was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation and also a descendent of the Otoe-Missouria and Iowa tribes. Karen loved taking care of her grandchildren.
Karen is survived by her husband Jimmy of the home, daughters Somer Lightfoot of Stillwater, Annette Gibson and Kenna Fields of Shawnee, Linsey Gibson of Perkins, mother Doris Hunter of Shawnee, brothers Henry Hunter and Jill of Shawnee, Warren Hunter of Perkins, sisters Rita Powell of Shawnee, Annette Rice and Bill of Cushing, Harriett Hunter of Eldon, Missouri, adopted brothers and sisters Butch Butler of Red Rock, Gene Bigsoldier of Carney, Linda Bigsoldier of Tryon, grandchildren George LeRoy, Dede LeRoy, Aaliyah Wood, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, brothers Lloyd Watts and Richard Watts, sister Debbie Hunter.
