Karen (Holmes) Baker, a longtime Cushing resident, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning at her home with her family by her side, at the age of 49 years.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in the First Baptist Church, Cushing, OK with Reverend Keith Moore and Ralph Hickman officiating.

The daughter of Dale Holmes and Ruthelma (Maitlen) Holmes, Karen was born on December 7, 1962 in Cushing, OK.  Karen grew up in Cushing and graduated with the class of 1981 from Cushing High School.

Following high school, Karen attended Oklahoma State University and Southwestern Oklahoma State University before earning her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Central State University, Edmond in 1984.  She was united in marriage to Doug Baker on May 21, 1983 in the First Christian Church, Cushing, OK and to this union three children, Kyle, Taylaura, and Foster, were born.  Karen and Doug returned home to Cushing in 1988 where they raised their family and attended First Baptist Church.

Karen loved her children and she never missed a chance to be with them and support them in their many activities.  She will be remembered for her devout love for the Lord, her passion for the lost, and her willingness to share God’s word with anyone. If Karen wasn’t reading and studying the Bible, she could be found enjoying her family, sewing, doing crafts, and of course shopping.  She will be remembered affectionately as “The Boss” at the pharmacy and will be remembered for her fighting spirit that she shared with all she knew.

Karen believed that her purpose in life was to worship God and to make her house “a home” for her family.
