Joyce Lee Olinghouse, age 78 of Yale, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Cushing.   Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Homer Ray High School Gymnasium, Yale. Dr. Grant Wyse will officiate. Interment will follow at Lawson Cemetery, Yale, Ok.

 Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale, Oklahoma.

Joyce Lee was born in Pernell, Oklahoma to Calvin and Grace Phelps on October 8, 1931. She grew up in Pernell and later moved to the Magnolia Oil Camp near Quay, where she graduated in 1948 from Quay High School. Joyce Lee graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1952 and started a teaching and coaching career at Quay High School. She met her husband and life-long partner, Jay Olinghouse, while at Quay, and they were married in 1953. Jay entered the Air Force in 1953 as a Navigator, and they lived in numerous locations throughout the United States, to include such places as Great Falls, Montana; Omaha, Nebraska; and Washington, D.C. Upon his retirement in 1973, they moved back to Yale where Joyce resumed a career as an elementary teacher and girls’ basketball coach until her eventual retirement in 1997. Joyce Lee was an active and supportive member of the First Baptist Church of Yale, community activities, Yale Bulldogs athletics, and her beloved Oklahoma State Cowboys. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay in 1993 and son, Terrence, in 2001. Her surviving relatives are sons, Steve and Gary, her daughter Cheri Barrington and husband Doug, and four wonderful grandchildren, Nichole, KayeLee, Brandon, and Dylan.

The Joyce Olinghouse family would like to request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Yale High School that she loved so much for a score board at both the basketball court and football field.
