Joseph Ruben Morris born July 21,1979 to Joseph Dave and Betty Morris passed away on January 17, 2015. Joe, the fifth of six children, was a resident of Tulsa, OK, but grew up in Cushing, OK and graduated from Cushing High School. There, he was quickly recognized for his athletic talents in weightlifting where he was crowned State Powerlifting Champion in 1997, and his domination on the football field. Known by his nickname “Smoking Joe the Bowling Ball”, and sporting jersey number forty-two, he was instrumental in leading the Tigers to countless victories. After graduation, Joe attended North Eastern State University in Talequah, OK where he soon gained a myriad of friends and joined Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He worked for a number of years at Walmart #63 and was an invaluable volunteer selected to assist in the New Orleans clean up after Hurricane Katrina.
Joe was a kind spirited, hard working, and easy going guy who enjoyed spending time with friends, grilling, watching movies, and drawing.
He is survived by parents Joseph D, and Betty J. Morris of Cushing, sisters: Vivian Morris of Dallas, TX; Melissa Morris-Anderson and husband Dwight Anderson of Guthrie, OK; Evona Morris of Dallas, TX; Theresa Morris of Stillwater, OK; and brother Benjamin Morris of Cushing, OK. Others left to cherish memories include a nephew and two nieces, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday January 24, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Cushing, Oklahoma.
