John Robert Mitchell passed away on October 4, 2015 at the age of 72, in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his family by his side. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday October 8, 2015 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing. Burial will follow in the Avery Cemetery Avery, OK.

John Robert Mitchell was born in Waldron, Arkansas on October 6, 1942 to the late Howard and Cloys (Goforth) (Dove) Mitchell. He grew up in Arkansas, later moved to Ohio and attended and graduated from Mentor High School in 1960. John joined the United States Air Forces after High School and was stationed in Texas, after being honorably discharged on July 19, 1965; John began working in factories all over Ohio. In 1970 John met the love of his live Lila Miller and they were married on April 2, 1970, after suffering a serious injury while working in the factory, they moved to Oklahoma and John began his work in the horse shoeing or Ferrier trade.

 

John enjoyed many different things in life, he enjoyed going to car auctions, being an announcer at horse shows, loved being a part of 4H, he enjoyed fishing, and collecting records, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, and grandchildren. He was a father and grandfather to many as well.

 

John is survived by his wife Lila Mitchell, two sons: Lionel Mitchell and wife Marie, James Mitchell and wife Ericka, one daughter: Tamara Lee and husband Rickford, four grandchildren: Brandy Barrows, Amber Miller, Alec and Colby Mitchell, three grandchildren: Raylin Miller, Hannah Barrows, and Saphira Miller.

 

John is preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Roger Warshum, and one granddaughter: Shannon Mitchell.
