John Dewey Hickman, a former resident of Cushing, OK and most recently of Houston, TX, passed away on January 19, 2010 in Houston, TX at the age of 91 years.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January, 28, 2009 in the Lakewood United Methodist Church (11330 Louetta Road), Houston, TX. John will be laid to rest in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing, OK at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, (800 S. Linwood) Cushing, OK.
The son of the late Benjamin H. Hickman and Edna Elizabeth Tichenor, John was born on September 9, 1918 in Agra, OK where he was reared and educated. After graduating with the class of 1936 in Agra, OK, John began attending college at Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. He then entered the United States Army Air Corps where he served during WW II until he received his honorable discharge in November of 1945. John then returned to school where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting. John moved to Cushing in 1950 where he began working for Shell Oil Company. He retired from the company in 1983 as their Finance Manager. While living in Cushing he and his wife Lorraine attended the First United Methodist Church.
John was united in marriage to Lorraine Huff on August 8, 1953 and she preceded him in death on November 8, 1988. John eventually moved to Houston, TX, where he had lived up until his death. In his spare time John enjoyed woodworking and playing golf.
Survivors include his daughter, Terry Dryden and her husband Dwain of California; two sisters, Helen Barnard of Jenks, OK, and Wilma Gilliland and her husband Joe of Tulsa, OK; two granddaughters, Ashley Mathe and McCall Miller; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Hickman and Marion Hickman.
