Jerry Leonard Rogers, a longtime Cushing resident and business owner, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009 in the Drumright Hospital at the age of 71 years.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Cushing, OK.  Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park.
The son of the late Earnest A. Rogers and Agnes N. (Newberry) Rogers, Jerry was born on April 27, 1938 in Tulsa, OK.  He was reared and educated in Tulsa graduating from Holy Family and Oklahoma Military Academy with the class of 1957 where he lettered in football. Jerry had attended Tulsa Junior College before entering the United States Army in 1958.  Jerry was united in marriage to Linda Kay Myers on January 31, 1976 in Las Vegas, NV.  Jerry worked for many years as an oil and gas producer before owning Rogers Realty in Cushing.
Jerry enjoyed staying active in the community and with the First United Methodist Church where he was a member.  He had served on numerous committees within the church and had more recently been a member of the Cushing Lion’s Club, Cushing Elk’s Lodge, and the Cushing Country Club (where he served as a board member in 2006).  Prior to moving to Cushing, Jerry was the director for the Innkeepers Invitational Golf Classic for 1968-1969, member of the Tulsa Jaycee’s in 1961, and had been the director for the Miss Tulsa Pageant. Jerry was also a member of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association and the Oklahoma Realtors Association.  In 2006 the Cushing Main Street honored him as their “Main Street Hero” and the Cushing City Commission presented him with an “Outstanding Achievement” award.
Many will remember Jerry as a loving husband, father, and grandfather that always gave of himself to help others.  But the things that Jerry cherished most were his family and his pets.
