James Robert Chrisp, a longtime Cushing resident and owner of Chrisp Cabinet Shop, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at his home in Cushing at the age of 72 with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the First Church of God in Cushing. Interment will follow at Kendrick Cemetery, Kendrick, Oklahoma.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home in Cushing.
James was born on March 18, 1942 in Kendrick, Oklahoma to the late Leonard and Elsie (Tipton) Chrisp, and was raised in the First Church of God. He grew up in Kendrick and graduated from Cushing High School in 1961. Following high school, he attended O.S.U. School of Technical Training in Okmulgee with a diploma in Cabinet Making. He then joined the U. S. Navy Seabee’s serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. After serving his country, James opened Chrisp Cabinet Shop in Cushing which he specialized in cabinet making. 0n June 6, 1971, he married Marcy Hamilton at the First Church of God in Cushing. Through the years, James also worked for Attic Babies in Drumright doing factory and ground maintenance as well as making the wooden doll accessories. In 2000 he went to work for Girl Scouts as a camp ranger for Camp Sylvia Stapley in Stillwater for ten years before retiring. After that, he continued his ranger responsibilities as a volunteer for Stillwater Girls up to the time of his illness. James was a member of the Cushing V.F.W. and American Legion. His past time was bee keeping, gardening, and tinkering at his wood shop making a variety of wood items for family members as well as friends.
James is survived by his wife Marcy of the home, children Brenda Prothe and husband Brett of Wichita, Ks., Bryan Chrisp of Newberry, Fl., Shariden Mittel and husband Eli of Tulsa, Krystle Kloeckler and husband Joshua of Okmulgee, Kathrynn Chrisp of Cushing, Dyllon Chrisp and wife Stacy of Japan , Tevin Chrisp of Montana, Zach Chrisp of Cushing, grandchildren James, Madison and Johnathan Chrisp, Brooklynn and Brayden Prothe, and Anthony and Landon Mittel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Leon Chrisp and Clifford Chrisp.
