James Leon “Jim” Wilson, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on March 3, 2014 at his home in Cushing at the age of 72. Wake services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Wilson home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Wilson Family Cemetery, Cushing. Mr. Ron Rice Sr. will officiate.
Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
Jim was born on June 5, 1941 in Concho, Oklahoma to the late Francis and Margaret (Brave) Wilson. He grew up in Shawnee, where he attended school. Jim entered the U.S. Army in 1960, serving his country for three years in Germany. He returned home in 1963. Jim married the loved of his life on August 7, 1964 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, they were married for 49 ½ years. They lived in Shawnee for a couple of years before moving to Cushing where they had lived for 43 years. He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness in Cushing. Jim was a member of the Shawnee Absentee Tribe. He was a plumber for many years. He was an avid gardener, raising many vegetables. Jim loved being outdoors. He was an accomplished wood sculptor.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years Stella Wilson of the home, sons Jeffery Wilson of Cushing, Jermery Wilson and wife Pam of Norman, Jason Paul Wilson and wife Shelly of Stroud, brothers Paul Wilson of Texas, Terry Wilson of Dale, Ok., Francis Lynn Wilson of Shawnee, brothers-in-law Austin Grant Jr. of Cushing, Francis Grant of Cushing, Saginaw Grant of Sun Valley, Ca., sisters Georgia Ruth Whitewater, KS., Rose Mary Whitewater of Tulsa, Denica Whitewater Wilson of Little Axe, Ok., Rita Harjo of Shawnee, Ok., and Tawna Wilson of Shawnee, Ok., three grandchildren Hunter Wilson, Raylin Wilson and Gabriel Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Darrell Wilson, sisters Judy Scraper, Elaine Carter and Lorine Whitewater.
