James Edward Burke, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at his home at the age of 78 years.

The son of the late James Henry Burke and Dallie (Thomas) Burke, James was born on August 14, 1930 in Calumet, OK. James was reared and educated in the Calumet area and as a teenager he entered the United States Navy. After receiving his honorable discharge, James began driving a truck, retiring in 1994.

He was united in marriage to Juanita Criger on April 2, 1957. The couple lived in several communities before making their home in Cushing in 1980.

James is survived by his wife Juanita; one son, Philip Burke; one step-daughter, Kyle Bennett and her husband James; one sister; one half sister; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister; one half brother; and one great-grandson.

Private family services will be held at a later date and have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing.
