James Byron Bowyer, 60, of Perkins, OK died on Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Tulsa, OK. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Perkins with the Reverend Robin Foster officiating.
James was born on February 16,1949 in Stillwater, OK , the middle son of Marvin and Dovie Bowyer. He married Carma Berryhill in 1969.
The Bowyer family moved to Perkins in 1957 where Jim and his brothers, John and Jack, attended school. Jim graduated from OSU and received his degree in 1970. He joined the Navy in 1970 and, after basic training, served on the USS Corporal and USS Sam Rayburn Nuclear Submarine. After honorable discharge, he received his Masters degree in Trade and Industrial Education from OSU.
Jim taught in Bartlesville, OK; Caney, KS; Eureka, KS; and Cushing, OK, where he earned the reputation as a concerned and caring teacher helping students through their problems individually.
Jim had a full and interesting life, centered around family and enjoying his children. Recently Jim and Carma returned to Perkins, where they built a home on the family property. Jim took pride in designing and building the cabinets for their new kitchen with the help of his son. He enjoyed the close ties that he shared with his brothers and being involved with their families.
He is survived by his wife, Carma and two children, Shawna and Christopher. Shawna resides in State College, PA with her husband Bill Culp; they are expecting their first child in June. Chris resides in Stillwater, OK. He and his wife, Cathey, have a daughter, Cali, l4 months old. Jim is also survived by two brothers and twelve nieces and nephews.
