(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / 08-10-2021) — On August 10, 2021, at 7:18 pm, officers from the Stillwater Police Department responded to Apple Creek Apartments, 1200 N. Perkins, in reference to an armed subject barricaded inside their residence having a mental health crisis.

A member of the Stillwater Police Department Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) responded. A CIT officer has received specialized training in response to individuals in a mental health crisis. The CIT officer engaged the subject in conversation, established a rapport with him, and de-escalated the situation. The subject disarmed themselves and maintained a dialog with the officer. The individual eventually submitted to the CIT member and agreed to seek treatment for their condition. Officers from the Stillwater Police Department transported the individual to the Grand Lakes facility to receive treatment.
