CUSHING, Okla. (June 10, 2025) — Hillcrest Hospital Cushing has announced the construction of a new behavioral health unit, marking the return of vital mental health services to the Hillcrest HealthCare System for the first time in six years.
The new unit will feature 21 beds in 11 rooms, including one isolation room. Construction is expected to be completed in approximately 120 days (about four months). This addition represents a significant investment in the hospital’s commitment to expanding access to behavioral health care in the region.
“Mental and behavioral health is an essential part of overall wellbeing, and we are proud to bring these critical services back to the Cushing community,” said Jonathan Schell, chief executive officer at Hillcrest Cushing. “This new unit reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of our community and ensuring that individuals and families have access to the care and support they deserve close to home.”
The facility will provide inpatient care for individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges, offering a safe and supportive environment for healing and recovery. The unit will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, nurses, therapists and support staff.
Hillcrest Cushing’s new behavioral health unit aligns with the Hillcrest HealthCare System’s broader mission to provide comprehensive, compassionate care to all patients in northeast Oklahoma.
