Hershel Leon Vanness, retired welder, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the age of 65 years.
The son of Maxine Barton and the late Hershel Jackson Vanness, Hershel was born on January 20, 1947 in Yale, and was raised and educated in Cushing.
Hershel was united in marriage to Carolyn Faye Pilgrim on November 24, 1970 in Arkansas.
Hershel enjoyed fishing and talking on his radio, working on old cars and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Carolyn, of the home; one son, John Vanness of Cushing; one daughter, Tracy Cress and her husband John of Cushing; his mother, Maxine Barton of Cushing; four grandchildren, Vanessa Jackson and her husband JR of Tulsa, Christina Cress of Cushing, John Brandon Cress of Cushing and Justin Cress of Cushing; three brothers, Gary Don Myers and his wife Patricia of Guthrie, Harlin Vanness and his wife Marna of Sand Springs and Jimmy Vanness of Tulsa; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his father, Hershel was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Vanness.
Graveside services will be Friday, August 10, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the Davenport Cemetery with Reverend Gary Brown, pastor of the Park Place Baptist Church, officiating.
