Helen E. (Lietzow) Hartley, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 78. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Cushing. Interment will follow at Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Cushing.
Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.
Helen was born on October 4, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Helmuth and Erna Lietzow. She was raised in the Chicago area, where she met and married the love of her life Walter Hartley on August 16, 1952. She worked as a secretary for GATX in Chicago for a number of years before the couple made their home in Cushing in 1978. In her spare time she enjoyed working in the yard as well as volunteering. In Chicago, she logged over 3800 volunteer hours with Christ Hospital and in Cushing, over 3500 hours with the regional hospital. Helen was also affiliated with the Lutheran Church .
Helen is survived by her husband Walter of the home, son Wayne Hartley of Cushing, daughter Holli Cobb and her husband Steven of Phoenix, Arizona, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hartley.
