(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Glencoe man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a young female relative in Stillwater has been ordered to appear in court on April 7 when he can ask for a preliminary hearing on a four-count felony charge.

Cody Ryan Murphy, 34, who remains free on a $40,000 bond, faces at least a 50-year prison sentence if convicted of lewd or indecent proposals to a child and indecent exposure to a child, court records show.

Murphy could receive an additional 25-year prison term if convicted of forcible oral sodomy and using a laptop computer to show pornography to the child during a period when she was 6, 7 and 8 years old, court records show.

The alleged abuse came to light in January when the now 11-year-old girl wrote a letter to her mother “stating he molested her,” according to a petition for an emergency protective order obtained by the girl’s mother on Jan. 23.

Murphy was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. on Feb. 12 by Stillwater Police Detective Inspector Greg Miller, court records show.

Murphy allegedly admitted to various relatives that he had an “inappropriate relationship” with the girl, according to the protective order petition and police affidavit.
