(Stillwater, Okla.) — An ex-convict with drunk driving convictions in five counties was arraigned this week in Payne County District Court on charges of driving a pickup truck under the influence of liquor at Perry and South Streets in Glencoe on a suspended license, as well as possessing marijuana and transporting an open container of beer, all on Saturday.
Due to his criminal record, Robert Joseph Wilkerson, 61, of Glencoe, could be incarcerated for more than 30 years if convicted of a four-count charge filed in the case investigated by the Payne County Sheriff’s Office.
Wilkerson, who was apparently released from prison about ten months ago, remains free on $10,000 bail pending an Aug. 20 appearance with an attorney in Payne County District Court.
According to state Department of Corrections records, Wilkerson, who has also been known by the first names of James and Jay, was convicted of drunk driving in:
* 1985 in Oklahoma County for which he was placed on three years’ probation;
* 1992 in Carter County for which he was apparently given a two-year prison term in 1993 after his probation was revoked;
* 1995 in Payne County for which he was given a five-year prison term;
* 2002 in Kay County for which he was given a seven-year prison term as a third offense;
* 2011 in Payne County for which he was given a five-year prison term followed by five years of probation as a subsequent offense;
* 2011 in Pawnee County for which he was given a five-year prison term followed by five years of probation.
Wilkerson also was convicted of misdemeanor possession of marijuana in 2011 in both Payne and Pawnee Counties, court records show.
