Gilbert R. Meyer, retired from A. T & T., passed away Tuesday evening, April 7, 2009, in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 62 years.

The son of George J. Meyer and Lillian Wolff Meyer, Gilbert was born on February 11, 1947, in Cushing, OK, and was reared and educated in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1965. He then attended Oklahoma State University for four years, prior to serving his country during the Vietnam conflict.

Gilbert was a longtime employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone/A.T. & T. Prior to his retirement in July of 2008, he worked for the company for thirty-four and a half years, the last ten years in management.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Nickelson on June 24, 1967, in Ripley, and to this union one son, David, was born.

Gilbert was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, having been baptized into the church. He was an avid bowler, was a certified coach in bowling, and actually bowled as a senior pro. He loved his two grandkids and would do anything to spend time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Maxine of the home; one son, David and his wife Kathy of Highland Village, TX; his mother, Lillian Meyer of Cushing; three sisters, Georgena Boyle and her husband Gary of Stroud, Janice Doerge of Oklahoma City and Joyce Dove and her husband Allen of Seminole; two grandchildren Maranda and Katy Meyer; two sisters-in-law Kay Jetton of Anaheim, CA, and Gayle Miller of Mehan, OK; one aunt, Wilhelminia Howard of Cushing; one uncle, Milton Wolff and his wife Georgia of Stroud and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Meyer.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Minister Cheryll Armstrong-Kaukis officiating.

Burial will follow in the church yard cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home.
