(Cushing, Okla.) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:21 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by request for prayers that included a Troop Reserve headed to Virginia for training. This was followed by prayer with Kathleen Leithner.
Lions Club then welcomed all the guests that came today.
Installation of new Lions Club officers will take place on June 16 (2015) at noon.
The Pancake Breakfast Saturday May 23rd (2015) raised over $500 and the club thanks anyone that gave a donation.
Lion of the Day-Lou Griffin introduced Emily Long, Payne County Game Warden. Long who has been with the Department of Wildlife Conservation for about 5 years is one of only three women working in this field that employs 117 Game Wardens. She is a farmer’s daughter and has some family from Payne County. Her husband is with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol out of Pawnee and Osage Counties.
Long told the club that a Game Warden’s job includes enforcing fish and wildlife laws of the state and that they are also CLEET Certified and can act upon seeing any other type criminal act in progress. She has a Bachelor Degree from OSU with at least 16 credit hours in wildlife or biology. She has attended or taken classes from OBN as well. A Game Warden take a state test and must submit to psychological and physical exams, along with other exams and a extensive background investigation.
The 50/50 drawing netted a total of $28 with the winner Bob Abshier donating back to the club the $14 that he won from the drawing.
The meeting adjourned around 1:00 (p.m.).
