THE OFFICIAL CHS 1963 WEBSITE NEWSLETTER

APRIL 2009

Membership to the Official CHS 1963 website is FREE and we have CHS ALUMNI members ranging from 1946 – 1975. Our site has informal forums and Gary Harmon (CHS 1963) started an interesting blog with humor and satire in mind – all open to members only. We hope you will visit us often and join us soon: https://chsclassof1963.webs.com

April 1, 2009 a new Classmate Story will be featured on the Official CHS Class of 1963 website. Janie-Deering Sylvester (CHS 1963) is our feature and shares with us her story as a CASA volunteer in observance of Child Abuse Awareness month. Janie shares with us the joy and the heart wrenching sides of a Court Appointed Special Advocate. I asked Janie why she had given her heart to CASA and her reply, in part, was, “I wanted to give these children a voice in the court system.”

When I asked Janie about her most memorable case, she went on to say, “When I think of the case that continues to burn in my heart and mind, it is one of those that did not allow the children to “go home to Mom”. Hers is a must read story. Maybe you will be inspired to join the CASA ranks or it may move you to help in other ways. I can promise you a tug at your heart and possibly a new entry on your daily prayer list.

With her story, Janie included this quote from Margaret Mead: “The solution of adult problems tomorrow depends in large measure upon the way our children grow up today. There is no greater insight into the future than recognizing when we save our children, we save ourselves.”

Be sure and visit our site the first of April, no fooling, and each month thereafter for more life event tales and stories from CHS Alumni.

In the month of May, we will be honoring one of our own who gave his life serving our country in 1968 – Vietnam . Semper fidelis … If you have a loved one who is a veteran, active duty or one who gave his/her life during U.S. military service and you would like to honor him or her in May on the CHS 1963 website, please contact me as soon as possible: [email protected] AND/OR you would like to honor him/her during our special Memorial Services May 24, 2009, contact Jim Pugh : [email protected]

May 22-24, 2009 Marks The Twenty Fifth Year Anniversary

for the CHS All School Reunions!

We’re Still Counting & We’re Counting on Seeing You There …

When it comes to CHS Tiger Alumni, from one All School Reunion to another, Memory Lane may be under construction … but it never closes … we share a website, laugh with one another in e-mails, have long and short phone calls/visits, renew friendships/make new ones and come together strong in support of classmates in times of joy and in times of need. May 22-24, 2009 is the weekend when we get to see each other again, hug, throw kisses, ‘remember when’ and make new memories – We’re Never Too Old To Be Young!

New events and socials are planned this year and Friday night’s BBQ bill of fare, Saturday morning’s traditional Lion’s Club pancake breakfast and the Saturday evening dinner spread already have my tummy growling! Registration cost: $20 – must be received by May 16! Email or mail your registration today! Yearly Dues: Only $5 – support the Alumni Association today! [email protected] or Cushing Alumni Association P.O. Box 642 Cushing, OK. 74023

Yesteryear truly is a wonderful time and place and how lucky we are to have the opportunity to return yearly to our hometown and live it again with fewer restrictions and more privileges – you don’t have to ask Dad to borrow the car and there’s no ‘home by ten’ curfew!! I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few of us who will ‘do the drag’. Start making your plans now – show up early and stay late! We must have birthdays to stay in the game, however, maturing is not required … Come on Everybody – young and old and all in between!
