Freda Harmon Carpenter, age 64, passed away July 21, 2008 at the Brookline Village in State College, Pennsylvania. Her memorial services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Cushing, Oklahoma and will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2008 in the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Cushing.

Freda was born on October 31, 1943 in Cushing, Oklahoma and was the daughter of the late Fred E. Harmon and Erma Talley Harmon. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1961. She received her B. A. from Oklahoma State University, Masters of Social Work from the University of Illinois and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University. She was employed at the Central Intermediate Unit as a Social Worker from 1972 to 1980, and then moved to Portola Valley, California. She practiced as a clinical psychologist until 1998.

She is survived by her son, Marshall L. Carpenter of Issaquah, Washington and his partner Janette Roberts; her sister, Linda Harmon Duffy of Boalsburg and two nephews, Daniel M. Duffy and Sean J. Duffy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Kay Harmon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent to Home Nursing Agency Foundation Hospice, 201 Chestnut Avenue, P.O.Box 352, Altoona, Pa.16603.
