(Stillwater, Okla.) — A former Stillwater man has been charged with attempting to rob a couple at knifepoint in an apartment complex where he was then living — one week after admitting in court that he had violated his probation in a 2015 methamphetamine possession case.
Brandon Cheyenne Thomas, 25, listed his current address in Hennessey when he was released from jail on $5,000 bond this week and ordered to appear in court on May 18 on a charge of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, a felony punishable by five years to life in prison on conviction.
Thomas had been arrested at 12:29 am on April 13 at a Stillwater apartment complex in the 1800 block of N. Hartford, 28 minutes after Stillwater Police Officer William Cluck was sent there at 12:01 am, an affidavit said.
The caller said that a man wearing all red pulled a knife on her when she opened the door, the affidavit alleged.
The officer alleged in his affidavit that he located the suspect “standing in the parking lot between the 11 and 12 buildings, wearing a red hoodie. As I approached, I could see he had a knife in his right hand.
“Brandon complied with all commands and dropped the knife when instructed, got on the ground and was placed in handcuffs. I noticed that Brandon was very talkative as he was being detained and some of his words sounded thick,” Cluck alleged in his affidavit.
The woman told the officer that she heard a knock on the door and opened it to see the suspect, who asked if her boyfriend was home and she said no, the affidavit alleged. She said “Brandon pulled out a knife from behind his back and told her that (her boyfriend) owed him money,” the affidavit alleged.
She said “Brandon told her he was there to get his money or as much as he could get and was displaying the knife,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that her boyfriend came up and “Brandon continued to threaten them and said he would cut them and then made comments about blowing them away,” the affidavit alleged.
She said “she was calling the police and Brandon said something that she thought was implying he would shoot them,” the affidavit alleged. The couple said “Brandon went to a black Dodge and pulled something long out and they thought it was a gun,” the affidavit alleged.
The officer alleged in his affidavit that after he talked to the couple, “I went back to Brandon and he was still very talkative. Brandon admitted to smoking marijuana within the last three hours, but said he was not intoxicated…Brandon admitted that he did drink a little, but again said he was not intoxicated.”
“Brandon told me he went to (the man’s) apartment because (the man) owed him $160. Brandon admitted that he pulled the knife out, but said he did not stab anyone. Brandon told me that he put the knife down at one point and agree to fight (the man) without the knife.
“Brandon told me that (the man) threatened to shoot him with a Glock at some point during the incident. Brandon made statements saying he did feel high still, but did not believe he was intoxicated and offered to take a breath test,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
“Based on Brandon’s physical appearance, his own statements of feeling high, his poor judgment on bringing a knife to collect money in the middle of the night, and my training and experience as a Drug Recognition Expert, I believed Brandon was intoxicated and under the influence of alcohol and drugs,” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
