(Stillwater, Okla.) — A former Perkins man — who was already on probation for making harassing phone calls — has been given a two-year prison term for leaving harassing voice mail messages to his ex-wife in which he threatened her and her husband.
Lloyd Mitchell Watts, 37, of rural McCloud, pleaded guilty last week to two felony counts of harassment by electronic communication on Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, both of 2013, for which he was given two concurrent two-year prison terms.
As part of a plea bargain approved by District Judge Phillip Corley Friday, Watts was also ordered to pay $750 in fines and assessments, as well as the cost of his incarceration.
Watts’ ex-girlfriend had reported that he called her cell phone 40 times on Christmas Eve — and left 14 voice mails between 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., Perkins Police Officer Jason Galt wrote in an affidavit.
Some of the messages threatened bodiy harm against the woman and her husband, the affidavit said.
Watts, who has a daughter with the woman, left one message on Christmas Eve, “If that little girl stays away from me any f…… more, you are going to f…… die,” the affidavit said.
When the Perkins officer talked to Watts the day after Christmas, Watts said that his threats were only directed at his ex-girlfriend’s husband, not her, the affidavit said.
Watts was also charged with calling his ex-girlfriend’s phone 14 times on Dec. 23, 2013 — including leaving nine voice mails in which Watts threatened to beat up her husband, Perkins Police Investigator Charles Danker wrote in an affidavit.
In May 2013, Watts was placed on probation for one year, with three days in jail and an order to be evaluated for mental health, as well as substance abuse, and to perform any recommended follow-up for making harassing phone calls in June 2012 and March 2012, court records show.
In April 2010, Watts was also placed on probation for one year with an order to have a substance abuse evaluation, along with an anger resolution class, for breaking and entering a woman’s apartment in 2009, court records show.
