(Stillwater, Okla.) — Former Payne County jailer Lane Tyrel Long, 28, has been convicted of possessing child pornography, sexting a 15-year-old girl, and illegally using a computer by a jury that recommended sentences totaling 10 years.
Following a two-day trial that ended on June 28, jurors set his penalty at five years for possessing child pornography, three years for engaging in sexual communication with a 15-year-old girl by a cell phone, and two years for using access to a computer to violate state law prohibiting the possession of child pornography.
Long, who had been free on $30,000 bail since September of 2019, was ordered jailed last week by Logan County Judge Louis Duel pending his sentencing on Aug. 3, court records show. The case had been assigned to the Logan County judge after Payne County judges recused, court records show.
Long, who was initially charged with child sexual abuse before the case was amended, was investigated by the state crime bureau on the Aug. 21, 2019, request of then-sheriff R.B. Hauf, whose retirement took effect on Sept. 1, 2019.
On Aug. 21, 2019, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Agent Rachel Savory interviewed Long at the Payne County Sheriff’s Office, according to her affidavit.
Long admitted to receiving and viewing nude images of the 15-year-old girl on Snapchat, the affidavit alleged.
Long admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl on at least 10 occasions beginning in January of 2019, the affidavit alleged.
“Long accessed Snapchat from his cellular phone, an iPhone XS Max. Long deleted the images from his phone when he saw Payne County deputies at his (Glencoe) residence the night of Aug. 21, 2019,” the affidavit alleged.
“Long admitted he made a big mistake and knew that his relationship with (the girl) was wrong and illegal because she was fifteen years old,” the affidavit alleged.
On Aug. 22, 2019, during an interview at the Saville Center in Stillwater, the girl said that she and Long had sexual intercourse more than once a week beginning in January and ending on Aug. 17, 2019, the affidavit alleged.
