(Stillwater, Okla.)  — A Stillwater man, who was released from prison four years ago, has been jailed on $100,000 bail pending an Oct. 1 preliminary hearing on a charge of aggravated trafficking of fentanyl, a felony carrying up to life in prison on conviction.
Joshua Robert Reeder, 33, who previously lived in Cushing, was arrested at 2:40 pm on Aug. 7 at 6th Avenue and Walnut Street in Stillwater following a traffic stop in which state-certified K9 Jaro indicated the presence of illegal drugs coming from inside his vehicle, an affidavit alleged.
“In the center console of the vehicle, there was a leather cigarette case, which contained a glass methamphetamine pipe. Also inside the case was a clear vacuum sealed style baggy around a white cellophane style baggy. Inside these baggies was a white powdery and crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
“I later searched Reeder incident to arrest, and he informed me he had an additional baggy of methamphetamine inside his front left pocket,” Stillwater Police Officer Newly McSpadden alleged in an affidavit.
During a jail interview, “Reeder stated he was selling the substance in an attempt to make a little extra money. Reeder told me he had picked up 14 grams of what he believed to be methamphetamine from an unknown person in Oklahoma City and brought it back to sell. Reeder stated he was going to sell the baggy from his pocket for $80,” the affidavit alleged.
The following day when the substances were examined at the Stillwater Police Department, “The baggy removed from Reeder’s person weighed 3.96 grams including packaging and the items inside it field-tested presumptively positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl. The baggy removed from the vehicle weighed 5.66 grams including packaging and tested positive for fentanyl,” the affidavit alleged.
According to Payne County court records and the state Department of Correction, Reeder had previously been found guilty of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm in 2018 for which he was given a five-year prison term but served less than two years. At the time, Reeder was already on probation for assault with a dangerous weapon and forgery in Cushing, which sentences were revoked concurrently to prison in 2018.
In 2014, Reeder had also been given five years of probation for use of a taken credit card and conspiracy in Cushing, court records show. Reeder had also been given probation for second-degree burglary in Sand Springs and unauthorized use of a vehicle in 2010 in Tulsa County, DOC records show.
