(Stillwater, OK) – The filing period for state and local elective offices is underway in Oklahoma, and will run through 5:00 PM Wednesday.
State offices up for election include: United States Senator, United States Representative, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Auditor and Inspector, Attorney General, State Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Commissioner of Labor, Insurance Commissioner, Corporation Commissioner, District Judge, Associate District Judge, District Attorney, State Senator and State Representative.
Local offices up for election include: County Assessor, County Treasurer and County Commissioner Districts One and Three. State office seekers will file declarations of candidacy with the State Election Board in Oklahoma City, while those seeking county offices will file with the County Election Board.
Several Payne County incumbents have announced plans to seek re-election, including District Attorney Rob Hudson, County Treasurer Bonita Stadler.
At the state leverl, Governor Brad Henry is ineligible to seek re-election due to term limits, But U.S. Senator Tom Coburn is seeking re-election. All of Oklahoma’s incumbent Members of Congress are seeking re-election except Mary Fallin, who is running for the GOP nomination for Governor. Longtime State School Superintendent Sandy Garrett has announced she will not be seeking re-election, and Attorney General Drew Edmonson is leaving that post to run for the Democratic Nomination for Governor. Lt. Governor Jeri Askins is also running for Governor. Scott Meacham has announced he will not seek re-election to the State Treasurers post.
