Each month during the school year the Cushing Chamber of Commerce takes a moment to honor one teacher, one support person and two CHS seniors – a boy and a girl. Those being honored for the month of February are: Tracy Nordquist, Joyce Baker, Clayton Kerr and Amanda Clouse.
Teacher of the Month Tracy Nordquist says her greatest joy as a teacher is “when students feel successful.” She went on to say, “I can see it in their faces and feel it in the atmosphere in the classroom.”
Tracy is married to Mark and has two children, Chad and Erin – both students at OSU. She loves the outdoors and is fond of hiking, canoeing and camping. In fact, she says if she could take a trip that costs nothing she would travel to all of the national parks in the United States. She is a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Stillwater.
Next on the list is Support Person of the Month Joyce Baker. Unfortunately, Joyce was unable to attend the reception but sent her daughter Denise as her stand in.
Joyce is married to W.C. Baker and they have three children, Denise, Kimberly and Jesse and eight grandchildren. She loves to sew and travel and of course “spending time with her grandchildren.” She has been a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church for over 20 years and has been a teacher’s assistant in McLambs Family and Consumer Sciences for 11 years. One of her greatest joys is watching students develop their skills in sewing and quilt making – and feeling like she’s “passing along a skill that they can use the rest of their life.”
Student of the Month Clayton Kerr is the son of Brent and Sharon Kerr and brother to Ashley. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends (and girlfriend) as well as “studying God’s word.” Clayton attends the First Free Will Baptist Church where he is very active in the youth group. Although he says he would love to spend the day with Tiger Woods to “learn a few golf tips,” his real love is snow skiing. Clayton hopes to continue learning new things about himself and making improvements. After graduation he plans on attending college at UCO.
Also named Student of the Month, is Amanda Clouse. Amanda is the daughter of Kevin and Wendy Clouse and the sister to Ashleigh and foster sister to Zachary. Amanda enjoys reading all types of books, listening to music and “hanging out with friends.” She is currently a part of an economics class and business professionals of America as well as an active member of her church youth group. Her interests also include learning about ancient Egypt and Greece. Amanda said if she could take a trip anywhere at no cost, she would go to ancient Egypt, because “that would be cool.”
