The Cushing Chamber of Commerce Business After School held their monthly reception today, February 24, 2014. Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.
Each month one educator, one support staff, and two high school seniors are honored. A reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce board room on the last Monday of each school month (with the exception of September and December). Receptions are open to the public.
This month’s honorees were Janette Lee, teacher; Russell Tain-Peah, support personnel; Julian White, CHS senior, and Drew Wilson, CHS senior.
Superintendent Koln Knight made the presentations.
Janette Lee is married to Lonny Lee and has three children. She is a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Yale. Janette is a fourth generation teacher and has taught in the public school system for 16 years. Her greatest joy as a teacher has been seeing her students become more confident, take pride in themselves and work, then graduating.
Russell Tain-Peah has two children that live in Cushing, enjoys kiding and learning about the way people lived before modern technology. He stated that his greatest joy in his job is “being a part of a great staff at Harmony that appreciates my work. They are not only teachers or co-workers, but also my friends.”
Julian White, a CHS senior, attends the First Church of God in Cushing and has performed in music ensembles around the community. She has been a member of the Cushing band program for seven years and has been accepted into many honor bands. Julian says in the next five years, she sees herself starting her career as a band director in some lucky town.
Drew Wilson, a CHS senior, loves to play sports and hangout with friends. During the summer, he works for the Cushing Youth and Community Center. Drew has started on the varsity baseball and basketball teams since he was a freshman. He also started on the varsity football team this year. He stated in the next five years he would be graduating from college and getting his first real job.
